The Rev'd Fr. Trey Garland, Rector
Grace and peace in our Lord Jesus Christ! It is with joy, humility, and gratitude that I write to you as I prepare to join you as your new rector, beginning January 11, 2026. I am deeply honored by this call, and I look forward to serving Christ together with you in the days and years ahead. Allow me to share a little of my journey with you. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and ordained to the priesthood in 2002 in the Diocese of Texas. Over the years, I have been privileged to serve in several dioceses—Texas, Upper South Carolina, and Central Florida—as well as in the Diocese of Durham in the Church of England.
My academic background is rooted in theology and music, with a touch of law. I hold a B.A. in Religious Studies from Alma College in Michigan, and a Master of Divinity from the University of the South, Sewanee. While at Sewanee, I was blessed to sing with the University Choir, continuing a lifelong love of Anglican choral tradition. My doctoral work in liturgical theology at Durham University, though not completed, has nonetheless deeply shaped my approach to worship, prayer, and music. I am passionate about the beauty and mystery of the liturgy, and I pray that, together, we will discover ever more fully how it draws us into the love of Jesus Christ
As we take up our ministry together, I am mindful of our Lord’s words: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19–20). This mission belongs not only to the clergy but to the whole people of God. My hope and prayer is that, together, we will grow in worship, fellowship, and service, bearing witness to Christ’s love in our parish, in our community, and beyond.
