   Meet Our Clergy

The Rev'd Michael J. Godderz, Rector

The Rev'd Michael J. Godderz has been Rector of All Saints' since September 1998.

Before coming to All Saints, Fr. Godderz was Rector of St. Bride's Episcopal Church, in Chesapeake, Virginia from 1991 through 1998. He was the Rector at St. Barnabas Church, Norwich, Vermont from 1986 to 1991. He served as Curate at Church of the Advent, in Boston from 1984 to 1986. Prior to ordination he worked at several publishing houses and as a lay Pastoral Assistant at the Church of the Good Shepherd, in Reading, Massachusetts.

Fr. Godderz is an active member of the Society of the Holy Cross (SSC) and is presently the Master of the Province of the Americas. He is a member of the Board of Visitors of Nashotah House Theological Seminary, and a Board Member of the Guild of All Souls. He also serves by Bishop Shaw’s appointment as the Dean of the Neponset River Deanery. He has from time to time served on various Diocesan commissions and committees, including the Diocesan Council, the Liturgical Commission and the Architecture Commission (of which he was chair).

Fr. Godderz received his Bachelor of Arts in History with honors from Rutgers University in 1974 and a Masters of Divinity, magna cum laude, from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, South Hamilton, Massachusetts in 1977. In 1980 he received a Masters in History from the University of Chicago. His interests are in history, liturgics, historical theology, and literature. He enjoys reading and woodworking.

The Rev’d F. Washington Jarvis, Priest Associate

The Rev’d F. Washington Jarvis has been Priest Associate at All Saints’ since 1976. Father JarvisHe assists at Mass on Sundays and on major feasts. He recently remarked: “I am so grateful to have the privilege of helping out – in a very small way – at All Saints’. The parish is the spiritual center of my life; it is there that I receive the ‘food for life’s journey.’ Father Godderz has brought us to a Golden Age in our mutual life.”

Father Jarvis is currently teaching at Yale, where he serves as Director of the Educational Leadership and Ministry Program at the Berkeley Divinity School. He was for thirty years headmaster of The Roxbury Latin School, here in Boston. Since his retirement he has served twice as a chaplain at Eton College in England, and twice as scholar-in-residence at schools in Australia. He is past president of both the Headmasters’ Association of the U.S. and the Country Day School Headmasters’ Association, and a former member of the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission. Before coming to Boston, he lived in Cleveland, where he was first curate at St. Paul’s Church and then Assistant Director, Upper School, at University School.

Father Jarvis did his undergraduate degree at Harvard College, and he earned his master’s degree at the University of Cambridge in England. Bowdoin College awarded him an L.H.D. in 1999, and Middlebury College a Litt. D. in 2004.

Father Jarvis is a member of the Society of Mary and is a frequent pilgrim to Marian shrines, especially to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham in England. He has a lifelong interest in liturgical music.
